 CLUB NEWS

January 10, 2013:

We are having our annual cookout on Sat Jan 19 from around 12:30 till around 4:00 pm.  This is being done in conjunction with the High Ledge Snow Stormers of Proctor, and the food is being prepared and cooked by members of Captain John Warners Company Herricks Green Mtn Rangers.  It is being held at Fabians shack in corr 4 in West Rutland, can be accessed by snowmobile or vehicle.

ALSO

B.E.S.T. purchased a 6 wheel drive tracked vehicle, called a Max II for grooming, although, since the purchase we haven't had enough snow to even try it out to see just how well it works. We had a new cab top installed, put in a new clutch, installed a yellow warning light, added mirrors, and are going to add a fan to keep the windshield from fogging up.

January 20, 2011:

The High Ledge Snow Stormers cookout at Fabian's shack was a success! we had between 50 & 65 people show up, along with two auxiliary state police officers, who were there to do snowmobile safety inspections, but no snowmobiles to inspect.  I think the lack of snow hurt us, but it was in a place that can be accessed by automobile and snowmobile, so people were able to drive right to the site.  It was sort of a unique event as the people that did the actual cooking were, from an organization called "Captain John Warners Company of Green Mtn. Rangers", that do historical reenactments around the northeast, namely, Fort Ticonderoga and the Hubbardton battlefield.  They set up three open fires and cooked everything in old fashioned cast iron pans and skillets, all ingredients were fresh and prepared on site.  Even the food was "period" oriented, as what was prepared, was what people would have had for a meal at this time of year 100 or 200 years ago.
Everyone that attended, said the food was really good, and complimented the cooks on a job well done.  We also had a big bonfire, and a small sliding hill for the kids that were there.  We had plans for a small snocross track for the 120 size snowmobiles, but the lack of snow prohibited that from being done.  We are planning on making it an annual event, and from all of the positive comments
I heard, I think it can grow bigger and attract more people in the future.

December 18, 2011:

OMYA has decided to allow snowmobiling on their properties for this (2011-2012) winter season.  But not after this season, so, it looks like the affected clubs (Proctor and Pittsford) will have to be planning new routes during the offseason.

December 10, 2011
:

We have replaced the decks on two bridges on the trolley line part of corr 4, and will check out the other bridges on the trolley line to make sure they're in good shape too. The decision from OMYA is expected sometime this month, (Dec.) regarding trail closures in Proctor and Pittsford, naturally we're hoping for a positive outcome. VAST has sent them additional insurance information they requested, so, hopefully that's a good sign.

January 31, 2011:

VAST had a very well attended Military Ride Saturday Jan 29, with demo rides on new Arctic Cat and Yamaha snowmobiles, kiddy rides on the 120 (kiddy) size snowmobiles, a raffle with lots of prizes, free food if you are, or were in the military, groomer rides, and a piñata for the  kids to break open. People either drove or rode to the event, which was held in Kenyon's field just off of Rte 100 in Waitsfield. Pretty much a perfect day all around.

January 31, 2011:

We have repaired all grooming equipment, and have groomed all of corr 4 and corr 133 last week. We are hoping to stay on a regular schedule of twice a week grooming for as long as we have groom able snow. Tomorrow and Wednesday it looks like we are in for another 6" - 12". Sounds like we will have another great weekend of riding!

December 17, 2010:

Beverly Taranovich (half of the T of T&T Tractor) sold some of her property, and the new owners don't want anything to do with snowmobilers.  So, the Proctor club has been hard at work doing a
reroute, and ran in to many downed trees in the area of the Fish & Game Club and Humane Society.  Bruce Carrington, President of the club, told me that if the weather cooperates this weekend (12/18 & 19), they should have most, if not all of the trees removed.  That doesn't mean that everything will be perfect, but at least Corr 4 will be open through Proctor again. Another issue on Corr 4, between WR and Poultney, is a washout on the trail, our trailmaster has been working to find out what town it's in, who owns the property, and whether it's a class 4 road or a right of way. We need this information in order to get a landowner permission form signed, to be able to get repairs underway.

Always looking for volunteers:

We are always seeking new active members to participate with club activities year round. Weather  helping with a new bridge , clearing trails for the season, marking trails or simply coming to the next meeting to give good ideas we welcome the help!

Club meetings are usually the 3rd Thursday of each month. To confirm exact day and location please contact Merritt Budd at: 802-438-5180.
